Cooking with Jean-Claude Le Lan, Spring 2006

Renowned French chef Jean-Claude Le Lan will conduct two cooking classes in Shaw on April 9 and May 21, 2006.

Chef at Le Refuge in Old Town Alexandria, Le Lan began training to be a chef at the age of 14 in his native town of La Rochelle, France. The 2005 Zagat's entry for Le Refuge observes that "Locals have their fingers crossed that 'the best-kept secret' in Old Town stays 'undiscovered by visitors and tourists,' so keep quiet about the 'heavenly cooking' and 'wonderful staff’ at this excellent French country bistro..."

The two cooking classes will be as follows:

Sunday, April 9, 2006, 10:30 AM (Reserve by April 6)

Sunday, May 21, 2006, 10:30 AM (Reserve by May 17)
Just in time for those hot summer evenings!

The classes will take place at 455 M Street, NW, just 2-1/2 blocks from the Metro (Green and Yellow Line/Mount Vernon Square Station) and the DC Circulator bus stop at 7th and M Streets. On-street parking is available.

Each class will include entertaining and informative demonstrations in the kitchen, with some participation and tasting. Copies of recipes will be available so you can make notes. The grand finale is brunch around 11:30 AM in the dining room with paired wines or champagne (and non-alcoholic refreshments).

The cost is $85 per class, payable by check to Jean-Claude Le Lan, or cash, before or at each session. Please reserve by e-mail ( or telephone (202-628-0590).
