Kennedy Playground
The Entertainers Basketball Classic tournament comes to Shaw from July 30, 2004 through August 1, 2004, at the Kennedy Recreation Center, 1401 7th Street, NW. Admission is free, but seating is on a first come, first served basis.
Tournament games will take place on Friday, July 30, 2004, from 2:00 PM to 9:30 PM, and on Saturday, July 31, 2004, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The championship game will take place on Sunday, August 1, 2004, at 3:00 PM.
For 23 years, EBC has successfully integrated the best components of street, college and professional basketball along with recording artists and celebrities, to establish what is widely recognized as the "leading street basketball brand in the world."
The annual Entertainers Basketball Classic, held at Rucker Memorial Park in New York City, is the ultimate street basketball showcase where sports, music, tv/film and fashion meet. EBC has been a driving force behind the now popular shift of interest in the urban teenage market from solely sports, to a seamless blend of sports and entertainment. EBC is sanctioned by the National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and continues to attract many of the top NBA, college and “street-ball” players around the country.Â
Recent NBA participants have included Stephon Marbury, Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, and Shawn Marion. Also attracted to EBC are some very notable personalities, including Denzel Washington, former President Bill Clinton, Shaquille O’Neal, Alicia Keys, NBA Commissioner David Stern, Queen Latifah, Jay-Z, Don Cheadle, Eve, Mike Tyson, Michael Rappaport, and Sean “P-Diddy” Combs.
